Lord Corn Wallis defeated Tippu Sultan in the 3rd Mysore War and captured Bangalore on March 21, 1791. The British killed Tippu Sultan at Srirangapatna in the year 1799 during the 4th War. Victory flag was hoisted in Mangalore at Bavata Gudde.
Queen of Aladangadi, Bantwal Tq, by name Rani Mundyappu was ruling Bantwal region. British started collecting taxes towards administrative expenses. As the queen used to pay taxes to Tippu and draught was prevailing in the region, she could not pay tax to the British. They arrested the Queen and brought her to Gurupur.
